Would you like to stop covering your mouth to hide that missing tooth? Would you like your smile back? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you may be in the market for a dental implant(s).
Dental implants are state of the art and the newest way to replace teeth. When we do an implant, we can place it without having to reshape the teeth around that tooth. Dental implants offer the best solution in modern dentistry as a replacement for the natural tooth.
There are two other options when it comes to replacing missing teeth and that is a fixed bridge or a removable appliance such as a partial or fixed denture. It is advantageous to go with the dental implants in order to preserve other teeth, as they will not have to be altered, but also your bone and facial structure will be preserved if you choose to move forward with dental implants. In other words your face will not start to sink in as it does with dentures–this is due to bone loss.
Not only do missing teeth make you more self-conscious, but they also make you look older and cause your face to have that sunken-in appearance over time. Everyday that you are missing a tooth you are losing bone. If you do not replace the tooth sooner rather than later you will need bone grafting done to restore the area.
Dental implants have a 95% success rate and often never need to be replaced with proper at home care and regular dental visits. Dental bridges have a life span of about 10 years. Also, implant procedures typically have very little pain after an operation.
Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
In order to be a good candidate for this procedure, you must have enough bone for us to be able to anchor the implant. You also must be fairly healthy as there is a handful of health conditions that may affect our decision to place implants for you. There is no certain age and very few conditions that prevent a successful implant.
